Bio by Josh Sullivan

During the summer of 2003 while at work, my pal Aaron would come in with this guy named Josh Fuller who would continuously stomp his caked-on dried clay from his shoes and onto the floor which I had just cleaned. It pissed me off and I eventually made him clean it up when this would happen. They would always come in after helping out down at The Arts Center and I eventually became friends with Josh. I also met George around this time because him, Josh, and Aaron would come into The Globe and hang out. Anyway, one time when Josh came in, he heard me singing some Guns 'n Roses and Usuals songs and said I should be the singer in this new band he was starting with Andy, who I didn't know but had seen at Fortunato's one time. I laughed it off and told him I didn't know how to sing but he kept bugging me to be in the band and I told him I'd come to practice sometime soon. At one point I did try to make it to a practice but Josh told me the wrong house to go to so I couldn't find it and my moped had died so I was fed up and walked home.

Soon turned out to be about three months later on October 12th, 2003, and that first practice I went to consisted of me, Andy, and Josh 2. Andy asked me why it took me so long to finally come to practice and I didn't really know. I guess I had felt shy and didn't want to embarass myself singing. It was really fun, though, and I wrote "The Worst Story of My Life" that day and we then had another practice two weeks later where we worked on a few different songs that we never ended up doing. The next practice after that, all of a sudden there were three new people: Ellison, James, and Tyler. I didn't know the first two people but I had met Tyler awhile back when he would come into The Globe here and there and I gave him comics long ago. He played trumpet, James played trombone and Ellison was percussion and sang backup vocals. We had pretty much gotten done "Semi-Serious Song" after this practice. The next practice had Jaimie joining the band and making us a 7-piece and giving us a bass player. She then was only at a few practices and somehow this kid Chad ended up being in the band for a short time. On Dec. 28th, Josh, Josh 2, Andy, Ellison, Tyler, and Chad all played outside behind the Museum of Fine Arts for a guerrilla-style show for the tourists. We did different versions of "S-S S" and different covers. We also had the beginnings of "Goge Gets a Job" down by this time.

A few days into the new year, we recorded "Semi-Serious Song" onto Josh 2's mini-disc player and it turned out pretty decent. We were all very excited to have all of our hard work pay off in the form of a recording. Around this time, James left the band because he couldn't make it to practices on the Sundays we had set as the day for us to get together. After that, there were only a few practices over the next few months but we still continued to persevere. Along the way, Ellison left the band, and we finally got a bass player again in the form of Jeff.

All of us just kept having sporadic practices up until May when my annual Chauncey Potluck in the Park was about to happen. I really wanted to have the band play at it so we worked really hard preparing for it. Our friend Mo was trying to get a permit for us to play in the park so we wouldn't get in trouble but it didn't happen. He said he would get us a show at The Uptown Bar but then he said we could play at the Palm Bay Hotel if we wanted to. On May 21st, 2004, we played our first real show in front of a small crowd outside with the line-up of Josh, Josh 2, Jeff, Andy, and Tyler. Just two weeks earlier, we had come up with "4th Street" and "Saginaw Sucks", neither of which I had memorized the lyrics to. For most of the show, I was up on stage reading the lyrics off my sheets of paper but it still was fun. Mo decided to have us play a show the following week at Palm Bay.

Josh 2 and Jeff didn't show up to play so we fucked around and came up with songs on the fly with Ryan from Wheelchair Getaway Drivers playing guitar for us. It was such a fucked-up set but it turned out to be something good because it helped me to just have fun even in the case of half the band not showing up. After this show and into the month of June, we decided we wanted to start recording so we enlisted the help of John Wilder. We were practicing in Tyler's garage instead of Andy's at this point and half of the recording was done at Ty's and the other half done at Andy's. We busted ass to get three songs done for our demo "Straight Outta the Sweatshop" because we had a big show at The Globe as part of the Tampa Bay Comic Book Bash and Ska Extravaganza and we wanted to have something to sell at it. We finished recording the day before the show and John gave us the master only a few hours before we went on. We made 100 copies and had an assembly line going that was quite amazing and everything came together perfectly. Even Matt and George helped out with it and they weren't part of the band yet.

We played the show in front of around a hundred people and there were so many people packed in the place that they had to stop letting anyone in. Everyone who is currently in the band was at this show, with the exception of Tyler, who was out of state and Kat. It was definitely a change of pace from the handful of people who had watched our first two shows. Shortly after this show, Matt caved in and joined the band after a really long time of badgering him. July came and there were only two days in the whole month where a member of the band wasn't on vacation. In the month of August, we started working on more songs such as "Hobo Juice" and "Brian Austin Green". We moved the practices to Jeff's and then the hurricanes started happening. Hurricane Charley didn't hit us directly and then I took off to MI for a few days. School had already begun but it didn't hamper us working our butts off because we had a show lined up on Sept. 10th in Tarpon Springs. Only a week before that, George joined the band and learned almost all the songs immediately. We played the Tarpon show with a line-up of seven people and even in the face of more hurricanes coming, people turned out to watch us rock out.

Shortly after, Kat joined the band in Sept. and we had finally gotten a sax player. We practiced our asses off and played a bunch more shows before the end of 2004, including one we had all been waiting for: a show at The State Theatre. 2005 brought us even more shows and a trombone player in the form of John, who joined in Feb.

Some other awesome events we played at in 2005 included tributes to Johnny Cash and Neil Young as well as Skatoberfest and Skalloween. A big goal for the year was to hit fifty shows overall by the end of the year, which we achieved on Dec. 30th, when we played with Whole Wheat Bread.

In June of 2006, we went on a two-week tour up to Michigan and back to Florida. We played such cities as Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, and Chicago.

We're more of a family now than a group of people who just would fuck off every Sunday afternoon at Andy's playing music they liked to play.

Some of the bands we've played with include: Big D and the Kids Table, Bomb the Music Industry!, The Independents, Whole Wheat Bread, The Know How, Taj Motel Trio, One and Done, Rude Squad, Fang Shooey, The Supervillains, SNMNMNM, The Game Show, Surfstyle, Wheelchair Getaway Drivers, and Chubby Tuff, among others. Places we've played at include: The State Theatre, The Globe Coffee Lounge, The Orpheum, The Neptune Lounge, The Pier, 688 Skatepark, The Brass Mug, The Salvador Dali Museum, Fossil Skate Park, The Tamiami, John Hopkins Middle School, The Bank Nightclub, and Skipper's Smokehouse. We've been played on 99.9FM Pirate Radio in St. Pete and 88.5FM WMNF out of Tampa. We've had mentions in the Weekly Planet and the St. Petersburg Times and had feature write-ups in TBT (Tampa Bay Times) and the University of South Florida St. Pete campus paper The Crow's Nest. We also won 3rd Place in the 2005 Pierfest Battle of the Bands. In March 2006, we got 2nd Place at the University of South Florida Bullstock '06 Battle of the Bands. In September 2006, we were featured in a story on Fox 13 Magazine. In March 2007, we were named in the Ultimate Local Band Guide in an issue of TBT.
